August / September 2009

I have been off line for a few months now due to
work committments and trying to look after a few
other things.
Due to the wet weather in the summer months, a
good return of salmon was reported which varied
in size from quite small, 1.5lbs to reports last
week that a cock fish of 16.5lbs was caught and
returned to the Strule near Newtownstewart.
There are also reports of many salmon being
caught in the upper reaches of both the Drumragh
river and the Camowen river. Thomas Colgan caught
and returned a lovely hen fish from the Camowen
in early August.
I have had reports that quite a number of salmon
were caught on the Camowen especially around
Andersons with P O'Neill doing particularily
well. A good number of salmon were also reported
to have been caught on the Drumragh with them
falling to spinners, spoons, worms and the fly
with
one even being caught on the dry fly above the
Dry Arch.
Now that we are nearly into October and the last
three weeks have been quite dry and a few fish
are still coming to the net, I must remind
anglers again to return all gravid hen fish back
to the river quickly and safely. It is an offence
under Loughs Agency regulations to keep a badly
coloured salmon and it could lead to the
prosecution of the Angler concerned.
Take care over the next three weeks in your quest
for that elusive salmon if you still haven't
connected with it yet.
