Omagh Hydro September 2009
28/09/2009
The Club are continuing in negotiations with the
Council re the hydro scheme planned for the River
Camowen.
Several Members of the committee attended a
meeting on the 17th with the Council, Planners,
Loughs Agency, DCAL, EHS, NIEA, and the makers of
the Archimedes Screw turbine.
The Association is still not happy with the plans
that were put before us at this meeting and with
the assistance of the Loughs Agency and guidance
from FASTA and the Ulster Angling Federation the
plans and formulations will have to be looked at
again. The figures that are being put out are too
full of ifs, buts and maybes and the Club needs
better assurances for the safety of salmon. This
river holds 25% of the spawning stock of the
entire Foyle System. We are awaiting further
updates from the Council at this juncture.
