Omagh Council Hydro Electric Scheme
18/01/2009
The latest update that we have from the council
is that they have spent their money on an
Archimedes screw turbine which is considered to
be completely fish friendly unlike the turbine in
Sion Mills. They will be putting out the building
of it to tender
in March /April 2009 and starting work after
that. The
club has had representatives over in England to
view one of these turbines in operation in the
River Dart in Ashburton and the
findings were positive. We have been in talks
with the Fishery consultant that the Council has
employed and pointed out some areas that we felt
needed looked at,such as a new fish pass on the
other side of the river away from the turbine. We
hope
that this had an impact as the consultant was
interested in the welfare of the salmon.
Don't forget to come to the AGM in Omagh Libary
